Warenton
The Hamlet of Warenton is a small community just one and a half miles from the A1. The history of Warenton dates back to 13th century when it was a medieval settlement. In the last century Warenton was a much larger community than it is today, the majority of residents earning their living from the land. Many of the original farm buildings have now been converted into luxury modern homes.

Belford
The local village of Belford is just 3.5 miles away. In the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries Belford was well known as a post town as it was a stop off on the post route beween London and Edinburgh where the carriage horses were changed. Many travellers enjoyed the accommodation in the thriving coaching inn at the Blue Bell, this can still be experienced today. Belford has been by-passed by the A1 and is a tranquil village with a community of approximately 900 residents.

The village provides excellent amenities for its size. There is a medical centre, dentist, golf course, newsagents, supermarket, art gallery, haberdashery and pine shop. It also has three public houses, including the famous Blue Bell Inn. There is also a good range of sports and social clubs to choose from. Belford also offers the choice of three places to worship, Church of England, Methodist Church and United Reform Church. Various festivals are held in the market square during the year and are attended by both locals and tourists.

Communications
Road and rail communications are excellent. Warenton is only 76 miles from Edinburgh and 45 miles from Newcastle. The A1 that links the cities is only 1.5 miles away. Newcastle International Airport is within a one hour drive of Warenton. The main east coast railway stations of Berwick, 19 miles north and Alnmouth, 17 miles south offer fast regular services to Edinburgh and London. Local towns of Bamburgh, Wooler and Alnwick are easily reached via uncluttered local A and B roads.

Schools
There are a good range of schools serving the area, both state and independent. Belford First School is a state run school for 5 to 9 year olds and currently has 75 pupils. Belford Middle School has 94 pupils aged from 9 to 13 years old. From 13 onwards a school bus takes pupils to the High School in Berwick upon Tweed. Just 19 miles away is the independent co-educational school of Longridge Towers. The school caters for day pupils and boarders from the ages of 4 to 18 years old. Rock Hall School, 9 miles away, is an independent co-educational day school for pupils from 3 to 13 years old. A range of excellent independent schools are also available in Newcastle upon Tyne, such as Royal Grammar School, Central High School and La Sagesse. Edinburgh has a large range of independent schools such as Fettes, Merchiston and Lorretto at Musselburgh.

Coast
North Northumberland's stunning coastline features many spectacular views and is one of the few wild and unspoilt areas within the UK. From Berwick to Warkworth you can experience history by visiting the many ruined and inhabited castles including Alnwick, Dunstanburgh, Bamburgh, Norham and Chillingham. Holy Island and the Priory of Lindisfarne founded by St Aidan in 635 can be reached via a causeway from the mainland at low tide. The area has national importance for birdlife and is therefore very popular with birdwatchers. Whilst resident bird populations are strong at all times numbers are boosted by the arrival of many passage migrants which use the RAMSAR site at Budle Bay. Multiple Sites of Special Scientific interest are to be found in the area between Chatton and Bamburgh. The wild bird and seal sanctuary on the Farne Islands are just a short boat trip from Seahouses. Miles of unspoilt clean beaches are equally inviting in winter and in summer. Enjoy sailing in the sheltered bays of Beadnell and Newton by the Sea. The area also offers many links golf courses for all standards of golfer. This is a truly unique part of Britain.
